Police Report

Case Number:
DBS 28/04/10/4732
Incident:  Drive By Shooting
Reporting Officer: Detective Croy   Date of Report: 29 April 2010

At about 2000 hours on 28 April 2010, I met with Jeanette Rodriguez at 445 West Englewood Ave in Chicago, IL 60621 regarding the shooting incident that occurred on Wednesday April 28, 2010. Ms. Rodriguez said she had parked the car right outside the nearby CVS pharmacy that is right on the same street she lives on. As she was making her purchase in the store she saw poeple run into the store. She heard bits and pieces of the conversation of desperate people. When she heard the words "drive by" she ran out in search of her baby Cynthia. However, she was too late. Just as she ran out she heard the piercing sound of a gunshot. She found her car window cracked with a bullet hole right in the center of it. Her two year old daughter, she describes, was gushing out blood from her left ear.
When I asked Ms. Rodriguez if she was able to recognize the offender she immediately said yes. She said that there were three or four people in the car- all males. Then she said that she immediately recognized the man with the gun as a a lighter complexion hispanic with dark colored eyes and hair wearing a black hat and blue shirt.  Because I have been involved with the investigation of crimes related to gang affiliation I asked if  she knew if he is a member of the Gangster Disciples. She immediately replied that he is and that she thinks that the drive by shooting was done with the intention to injure her of her boyfriend Erik.  She added that her boyfriend is a member of the Latin Kings and that although he is trying to change and leave the gang many members of the Gangster Disciples continue to harrass him. I then asked her if any members of the Latin Kings are trying to harm him in any way and she replied that although for the most part they are letting him go there are some members who are greatly infuriated.

I conducted a survey of the crime scene, which was ordered to be left intact, and noticed that due to the placement of the the bullet whole in the glass, there is little doubt that the shot was not aimed. However, I will have to do further investigation.

I obtained a sworn statement from Ms. Rodriguez and provided her with the case number. I then asked her if I could later talk to her boyfriend about the incident. She gave me his contact information and I wrote it down. Then I took pictures of the crime scene and left.
