Two year old killed in a drive by shooting:Chicago Gang Violence is Not going Away

After the now known as the drive by shooting in Englewood, one of the most dangerous regions of Chicago, we interviewed Detective Croy, who is one of the detectives investigating the case to see what new information he had to provide about the case.
According to Detective Croy the bullet did not just happen to accidently land on the girl. He reprts that this is a gang violence crime. The offender, Marco Hernendez wanted to get revenge on Erik Gonzalez for continuous problems they have had in the past due to their opposing gang affiliations. Marco Hernandez is a Gangster Disciple while Erik Gonzalez is a Latin King.  The rivalry between these two gangs has gotten to the point that Jeanette, Erik's girlfriend, feared to go out of her house at all. Detective Croy even reported that "she did not even feel safe in her own house."
We asked the detective if he believed that the crime was intentional then. He responded, "Looking at the records of both individuals, it is evident that they have been involved in this gang war for quite a while. Marco just wanted to get Erik where it would hurt him the most; he killed his daughter Cynthia."
Detective Croy was also kind enough to share his opinion about the gang violence in Chicago and how it can be resolved. He stated,"Drugs, gangs, and violence will always be around no matter what. However, my job is to enforce the law and to keep innocent people from being hurt. If parents are not doing their job and raising their kids right and schools are not providing the necessary resources to keep kids away from gangs why should the police force take blame? This is not one person's or one group's responsibility. Society as a whole has to live with it and learn how to deal with it and try to prevent as much gang violence as possible.
The truth is that the gang violence in Chicago does not seem to be going away any time soon and along with the violence there are also other crimes committed. These include armed robberies and the trafficking of drugs. Therefore, we need to try to prevent teenagers from possibly joining gangs. Richard Daley is currently working to lead new programs in the Chicago area schools that will keep kids away from the streets and make them do something positive with their lives. Whether his proposed programs will work...we will have to see.
