Teenager Charged in gang shooting that Killed a Two year Old

Charges have now been filed in the shooting death of a 2 year old girl, killed as she sat in her family's car on the South Side of Chicago.
Marco Hernandez, 17, of 400 East 92nd Street is charged with one degree murder of  Cynthia Rodriguez.
The toddler was sitting in the back of the family car with her 4 year old and eight month old sisters after her father had dropped off the girls' mother at around 11:30 pm on Wednesday night.
Police say that Marco had aimed at the father and missed. However, a bullet struck Cynthia in the head and she died the next day.
Hernandez and Cynthia's father, Erik Gonzalez, are in rival gangs, according to the police. The shooting was in retaliation for one of Marco's friends being hit.
Cynthia's mother witnessed the shooting and recognized Hernandez. She gave the police his name and he turned himself in Thursday evening.
After further investigation, the police found out that these two teenagers had been involved in previous gang related conflicts at school.
According to the police officers, both of these high school students have been suspended mulitiple times from school and  Marco has recently been expelled from school after he and some of his friends got in a fight with students that were members of an opposing gang. Due to the fact that there is a history of rivalry between the individuals involved in the incident, further investigation will be needed.
